Milwaukee police have released photos of the suspect that shot Bernell Trammell, a black publisher, philosopher, well-respected offbeat elder, and avid Trump supporter.
Police described the shooter as a man in his 30s, standing 6′ tall, weighing 200 pounds — last seen wearing a white and red baseball cap, a black mask covering the lower portion of his face, a black and red long sleeve shirt with white writing on the front, white or light colored pants, black socks and white shoes. His mode of transportation was a black bicycle.
Bernell Trammell was known for his kindness, desire for peace, and positive attitude. Standing outside his storefront residence, in this video shot hours before his murder, Trammell speaks calmly but confidently about his support for the re-election of Donald Trump in 2020.
Nearby residents described Trammell as involved in the community and unafraid to share his religious beliefs, opinions, and support for President Trump; but also unafraid to listen.
Mainstream media accounts almost immediately claimed police have no indication of a motive at this time.
Milwaukee’s Republican Committee chair, Andrew Hitt, was less ambiguous: “Because of Trammell’s well-known political activism and the possibility that his murder could be politically motivated, I respectfully request that United States Attorney Matthew Krueger open an investigation . . .” Not far from Trammell’s residence was a recently-opened GOP office, established as an outreach to the black community.
A few days before his murder, a young man followed Bernell Trammell around with a sign. Trammell was walking the neighborhood with a Pro-Trump sign. The unidentified young man apparently meant his own sign as a reply to Trammell’s. It read simply “sike.” He asked the young man to give him six feet for health reasons but he did not.
After some time, Trammell walked off, choosing to deescalate. Showing his personality of true rather than fake tolerance Trammell said of the young man “I thought it was really negative, but yet at the same time, maybe he really needed to do that to kind of get something off his chest. Overall, I got his message…”
