With the Southern border on the brink of collapse, Republican Governor Greg Abbott has pushed law enforcement officers and border patrol agents to their breaking point. With nowhere else to turn, Gov. Abbott even pleaded with President Joe Biden in a letter, asking him to declare an emergency declaration as the situation boils over. But as Biden has yet to acknowledge the border is in need of assistance, law enforcement officials announced that while trying to relocate Haitian migrants using private buses, the illegal immigrants revolted against the officers, overtook the bus, and eventually escaped.

Happening Monday afternoon, details are still coming in. But what is known is that officers were in the process of transporting a portion of the 16,000 migrants camped under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas when during the two-and-a-half-hour trip to San Antonio, migrants decided to take control of the bus and use it to try and run away.

Talking to the Washington Examiner, a senior federal law enforcement official said, “They did break out of the bus, and they did escape.”

The details surrounding the incident are being silenced as neither Customs and Border Protection or Immigration and Customs Enforcement are taking ownership of the blunder. According to officials, CBP only apprehends, transports, and processes immigrants. ICE, on the other hand, is in charge of the long-term handling of migrants, which includes detention and deportation. Still, neither agency responded for a comment.

While silent, it should be noted that ICE did let it slip to news outlets that “several noncitizens attempted to flee the contracted bus.”

As for Gov. Abbott, he pointed out in his letter to President Biden the severity of the situation, saying “Families, including infants and children, need food, water, and medical supplies that the local government cannot supply. Thousands of families are immobilized in 100-degree heat as their numbers continue to swell as they wait to be processed by the approximately 64 federal agents in the area. Individuals are camping in squalid conditions and bathing in muddy river water, causing great health concerns.”
