After grossly misreporting the number of children hospitalized during in previous 14 months, the New York Times issued a correction, but is it too little too late?
In an article by NYT reporter Apoorva Mandavilli, readers were told that “nearly 900,000 children have been hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began.”
The correct number is 63,000 between August 2020 and October 2021, which means Mandavilli exaggerated the number of child hospitalizations by 837,000 cases.
Conservative and centrist media have reported on the numerous errors in this particular article, but it seems that most of these critiques have been swept from the public view.
This “error” comes at a time when parents are questioning whether or not to vaccinate their small children (and babies), which calls into question if this was an actual error or a well thought out plan to spread more misinformation to the American people.
