Cities across the United States are experiencing unprecedented crime rates. NYC has already seen a 37% increase in crime this year. Chicago is no better, with well over 400 people murdered in its city this year. However, this does not have to be the case.
While other cities across the U.S experience record high crime rates, Miami is on track to have its lowest crime rate since the 1930s. According to the Miami Dade Police Department, between January of 2021 and August of 2021, there were 67 homicides in the county. This figure has dropped to 52 homicides between January of 2022 and August of 2022, a 22.39% decrease.
Every murder is a tragedy, but 52 homicides in a single year in one of America’s major cities is something Miami Mayor Francis Suarez should be proud of. To put this into comparison, in July of this year, over 50 people were shot during a single weekend in Chicago. Under Democratic regimes, like that of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, America’s major cities have the potential to turn into warzones.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez was interviewed by Fox New’s Maria Bartiromo and explained why he believes his city is experiencing such a precipitous drop in crime:
“Well, the macro story is simple, we have kept taxes at a 1960s low, we have invested in our police. While other cities across America have decreased funding for police, we actually increased funding for our police… So, what happened is our homicide rate went down by 25%. We are probably the only big cities in America that had such a large drop in homicides in the country.”
Mayor Suarez has not only helped in terms of making his city safer, but has also made it more economically prosperous. In 2021, Miami-Dade County, the unemployment rate was 4.5%. That unemployment rate has been nearly halved, to a low 2.5%.
In order to combat Biden’s terrible management of the U.S. economy, Mayor Suarez has sought to make Miami the new hub of technological innovation and has been extremely successful in this endeavor. Suarez stated this about tech jobs moving to Miami:
“We’ve leaned into innovation. That has now made us number one in the nation in tech job growth, number one in the nation in tech job migration, and we’ve moved over a trillion dollars in assets under management companies to Miami.”
Suarez is also taking an interesting approach to insulate his city from Biden’s inflation inducing policies. He believes that by instituting cryptocurrency into the Miami financial market, he can provide his citizens with a currency that cannot be controlled and devalued by the federal government. Suarez defended educating his citizens on cryptocurrency and implementing it in the city’s financial market by saying the following:
“When you see a situation where government spending is out of control, inflation is out of control, then people who have their money in a bank account are not earning any interest, their purchasing power is being diminished by the day. So, they’ve got to find ways to be able to keep up with inflation to get a yield. Crypto provides that avenue.”
As major cities across the United States begin to collapse as a result of Democratic politicians with socialist ambitions, Miami stands out, prospering despite a general economic decline. Mayor Suarez has shown that strong leadership that values liberty and capitalism can revitalize America’s cities.
