Amidst an avalanche of misleading language about abortion, the Biden White House is showing a strong interest in expanding its practice, both worldwide and in the US.
Two key policies involved are the Hyde Amendment and what is called the Mexico City Rule. Both of these involve government funding, in large amounts, for abortions in the US and abortions internationally.
The recent statement on the matter came from Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki, during her first conference…
“I will just take the opportunity to remind all of you that he is a devout Catholic and somebody who attends church regularly. He started his day attending church with his family this morning but I don’t have anything more for you on that.”
She gave this in response to Catholic network EWTN reporter Owen Jenkins’ queries regarding pro-life Americans. Psaki said there will be talk soon regarding the Mexico city policy.
The Hyde Amendment
Until his most recent bid for president, Biden had supported the Hyde Amendment. This amendment originally passed in the congress soon after Roe v. Wade and has been in effect, with certain alterations, since 1980.
This policy generally applies to Medicaid. The law blocks money being given by the federal government to pay for elective abortions. Exceptions are given in the case of rape, incest or if the procedure is needed to save the woman’s life.
The Mexico City Policy
Started under Ronald Reagan, the Mexico City policy prevents foreign aid going to programs that “perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning.”
President Donald Trump reinstated–and expanded the reach of–the rule early in his term. Obama had cancelled it early in his presidency.
Democrats did not target the Hyde Amendment until 2016. Opposition to expansive and full-scale access to abortion, “abortion on demand”, remains unpopular. Various euphemisms employed in the discussions about abortion can be used to indicate support for it.
Media and other democrats cite various polls indicating popular support for abortion. These articles or blurbs often have fuzzy declarations like “just over half” or “a small majority” and similar statements.
Additionally, these polls will claim to represent a sampling of a certain group such as Catholics or Evangelical Protestants.
Most academic pollsters and persons in the establishment media have little or no knowledge of a person’s actual commitment to their belief system and it’s actual meaning. As we’ve seen, polls can be off.
The popular retort that someone is variously religious is employed frequently as well regarding abortion matters. Nancy Pelosi flexes her Catholicism in public statements.
Pelosi was reminded of Catholic teaching on abortion in a private meeting with former Pope Benedict while American high-ranking Cardinal Burke has stated Biden was a Catholic not in good standing.
Perhaps most alarming on the issue of abortion is the consideration of Xavier Becerra, a lawyer, for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Becerra is the Attorney General for California. He previously pushed forward with an almost seemingly sadistic lawsuit against Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic nun’s group involved in the care of the elderly.
He had been trying to force the group to provide contraception for it’s employees as part of an Obamacare mandate. Becerra too claims to be a Catholic and served as co-chair of the “Catholics for Biden” group along with Senator Tim Kaine, D-Va.
Covid czar Dr. Anthony Fauci told the World Health Organization’s (WHO) executive board January 21, 2020 that “in the coming days,” President Joe Biden will revoke the so-called “Mexico City policy,”
The action will be part of Biden’s “broader commitment to protect women’s health and advance gender equality at home and around the world,” said Fauci, who is now Biden’s chief medical adviser.
President Trump is known as the most Pro-Life American President in history that saved hundreds of thousands of children’s lives with his anti-abortion policies and actions. Joe Biden is just the opposite.
Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill, who heads up the nation’s largest abortion provider responsible for slaughtering more than 300,000 children every year, hailed President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming administration as a return to “decency,” “compassion,” and “justice.”
It’s guaranteed that Joe Biden will also keep his promises to his supporters. However, his promises will result in the murder of potentially millions of innocent children not only in the United States but around the world.
