The fear mongering news media continues to project coronavirus death and devastation for America, which is causing widespread panic that we simply don’t need on top the stress of our citizens being out of work and quarantined in their homes.
People are tuning into the news right now for updates not lies and misinformation such as comparing the impact of the coronavirus on the United States to Italy, whose death toll has surpassed China’s loss of life due to covid-19.
Liz Wheeler, host of Tipping Point on One America News Network, did a one-on-one comparison in which she explained *5* reasons why the United States coronavirus outbreak cannot to be compared to that of Italy…
#1. Italy has the oldest per capita population in Europe. Older than the United States. 2nd oldest in the world. The average age of the people dying of the coronavirus in Italy is 81. Elderly are the most at risk population for the coronavirus.
#2. Italy has a high percentage of smokers. This means more people with underlying health issues including lung conditions, which makes them higher risk for then coronavirus.
#3. Italy has a different transmission issue than the United States. There are cultural differences such as kissing as a regular greeting that impacts transmission from person to person. Additionally, Italy is also part of China’s Silk Road Economic initiative with a direct line of contact with Wuhan, Chinam where the coronavirus first emerged.
#4. Italy’s single payer healthcare system is failing. They have poor primary care so people don’t see their own doctor and have to go to the emergency room. Italy’s emergency rooms collapsed with just an 1,000 extra patients on day 10 of the virus outbreak. Patients were also not isolated in the beginning.
Obviously in the United States, our emergency rooms have not collapsed, and we are well passed 10 days into this virus outbreak. Plus those infected are isolated in medical facilities or quarantined at home.
#5. Italy is not using a combination of anti-viral drugs that South Korea has found to be effective in treatment of the coronavirus, because it’s not the official World Health Organization prescription to fight covid-19.
As you see, the one to one comparison of the United States to Italy doesn’t add up. Here’s the reality…
- Day 13 of the coronavirus in Italy – Death rate 4%
- Day 13 of the coronavirus in the US – Death rate 1.8%
