Regarding holiday gathering restrictions Oregon Governor Kate Brown said “In terms of individuals, I am not asking you…I am ordering you.”
With 1,000+ new cases on both Thursday and Friday of last week, the order comes amidst concerns of a wintery backlash from the virus. Schools, daycares, parks and playgrounds will stay open while most businesses will be shut or limited capacity.
The two-week “freeze” starts Thanksgiving eve. Portland’s Multnomah county will have a four-week freeze.
Brown urging to call police on neighbors goes with an alarming trend of tech companies volunteering “tracking” help and other encouragements for Americans to inform on COVID violators.
Various experts in the US and abroad, over the last several months, have recommended a multi-pronged approach that usually includes only measured, reasonable gathering limits for enforcement. This in addition to vigilant practice of common sense precautions.
While Governor Brown is heavy-handed with restrictions on Americans celebrating Thanksgiving, she still hasn’t come up with a solution for the criminals tearing Oregon cities apart and harassing law-abiding citizens.
